History

The Adelaide Australia Temple was the second temple built in Australia, following the Sydney Australia Temple (1984).

Elder Vaughn J. Featherstone of the Seventy and president of the Australia/New Zealand Area presided at the groundbreaking services for the Adelaide Australia Temple. He requested that local saints serve willingly and joyfully in the temple. He labeled the temple a wonderful credit to the members in Adelaide who have "for years and years traveled between 15 and 20 hours each way to the Sydney temple." By demonstrating a commitment to temple attendance, the Adelaide members "surely merit a temple in their midst." Continue to full read article.

History

The Salt Lake Temple was the fourth temple built in Utah (though its construction was started first) and the first built in the Salt Lake Valley.

The Salt Lake Temple was the only temple dedicated by President Wilford Woodruff. With its distinctive spires and statue of the angel Moroni, the Salt Lake Temple is an international symbol of the Church. The Salt Lake Temple is the largest temple (most square footage) of the Church. Original plans for the Salt Lake Temple called for two angel Moroni statues—one on the east central spire and one on the west. The Salt Lake Temple took 40 years to build with its highly ornate interior being completed in just a year. (View the story of the building of the Salt Lake Temple.) Continue to full read article.

History

The Freiberg Germany Temple was the first temple built in a communist nation and the first built on German soil.

The Freiberg Germany Temple was originally named the Freiberg DDR Temple.

At 7,840 square feet, the Freiberg Germany Temple was the smallest temple the Church had ever constructed.
